The Clohesy River Road Fig Tree

A focused half-day journey into ancient rainforest, perfect for travellers who want a genuine Wet Tropics experience without a full-day commitment.

Half the Day, All the Magic

Not everyone has a full day. This tour is built for travellers who want a genuine rainforest experience in a focused timeframe.

Your guide collects you from your door and takes you along the scenic Clohesy River Road through tropical farmland and rainforest patches. The real Far North Queensland that most tourists never see. The centrepiece is the 500-year-old Curtain Fig Tree, one of the most spectacular natural landmarks in the Wet Tropics.

We stop for morning tea along the way, and there’s plenty of time for wildlife spotting and photography along the river corridor. Your guide knows where to look and what’s active.

This tour also combines naturally with a Kuranda village visit. Add the markets, wildlife parks, and a river cruise for a fuller experience. Just let us know what you’re after and we’ll build it around you.

Cruise ship passengers: We collect you from the terminal, take you to the fig tree and Kuranda village, and get you back for your ship on time. Tell us your schedule and we’ll handle the rest.

We negotiate pickup and return times based on what works for you. Back by late morning or lunchtime for the half-day version.

What You’ll See

Clohesy River Road

A scenic back road through tropical farmland and rainforest patches, offering a glimpse of rural Far North Queensland away from tourist routes. This is the kind of road your guide drives every week, not something you’ll find on a bus tour itinerary.

Curtain Fig National Park

Home to the famous 500-year-old Curtain Fig Tree with its dramatic 15-metre curtain of aerial roots, a must-see natural wonder of the Wet Tropics. Morning light through the canopy creates extraordinary photography conditions.

Tablelands Lookouts

Elevated vantage points offering sweeping views across the Atherton Tablelands, from volcanic hills to patchwork farmland and distant ranges.

David is an amazing bloke who got us from Kuranda quickly and kindly. After getting stuck in a pickle with no way to the airport, David got recommended to us and we couldn't be more grateful for his service. He is a kind man who gave us excellent service.

We were trying to see as much as we could during our short stay in Cairns, and wanted to visit Kuranda in the afternoon. The only trouble was that the most common transportation options were the train and sky rail options, which took all day. David provided the perfect solution with flexible timing and great service.

Our SkyRail was cancelled due to storm warnings, and we urgently needed a ride back to Cairns to catch our flight. David was very quick to respond and managed to accommodate our tight schedule despite the rain. He was an excellent driver and saved our trip!
